Is it Safe for Teens to Get a Hair Transplant?

Most teens get scared after witnessing hair thinning conditions or hair loss at a young age and pester their parents to allow them to get a hair transplant. But, is it safe to get a hair transplant when one is 13-19 years?

In this educational testimonial video, Dr John Watts – a noted dermatologist, trichologist and hair transplant surgeon in Hyderabad – explores this important topic and demystifies it. He has successfully performed over 1900+ hair transplant surgeries.

Do teens need a hair transplant?

In his introductory talk, Dr John Watts answers in the negative and says that in 98% of cases, teens (in the age group of 13-19 years) really should not bother about getting a hair transplant at this age.

Even if there is hair loss, receding frontal hairline or hair thinning, teens should look for medication help instead of a hair transplant.

“They don’t require a hair transplant at all. Only in extremely rare cases where there is drastic hair loss, one can consider a hair transplant procedure,” said Dr John Watts.

Diagnose Hair Loss

Instead of a hair transplant, the solution that Dr John offers teens to explore is to find out the exact cause of their hair loss condition by consulting a qualified dermatologist or a hair transplant expert.

“Find a medical treatment for hair loss. Your stress levels, sleep patterns or nutritional deficiencies can all contribute to hair loss. With proper medication, this problem can be resolved,” he advised.

Caution for Parents:

In a gentle reminder to parents, he advised them not to fall under the pressure of their teenage children and allow them to go for a hair transplant at such a young age as it would leave adverse consequences later on.

“It is normal to lose 50-100 strands of hair a day. There is nothing to be scared of,” informed Dr John Watts, while advising teens not to get swayed by social media glamour of actors and celebrities.

Don’t experiment with hair:

In his talk, Dr John Watts advised teens not to experiment with their hair by resorting to the use of harmful chemicals, gels, shampoos or hair straighteners to get a glamoured look.

“It is always better to try natural remedies or consult a qualified dermatologist for any hair issue instead of experimenting with your hair,” he said while urging his followers to share the video for awareness.
