What is the Treatment for Female Baldness & How is it Different from Men?

This is a lesser-known topic as female baldness is not too prominent or widely known as male baldness. Of course, they also face baldness but what is the solution? Can it be prevented? At what age does baldness become prominent?

In this educational video, Dr John Watts – a noted dermatologist, trichologist and hair transplant surgeon in Hyderabad – demystifies this confusion for the benefit of the viewers of his popular YouTube channel. He has successfully performed over 1900+ hair transplant procedures so far.

Introduction:

Unlike in men, it is very rare to see baldness in young women. The right age where baldness gets prominently visible in women is when they hit the menopause age. “During the menopause phase, the female hormone levels can witness an imbalance.

The estrogen level may come down and the androgen level may see an upward activity. The DHT influence may also become active and trigger baldness,” explained Dr John Watts.

However, female baldness differs from men in several ways. The sides may not witness baldness, which appears commonly at the partition in the shape of an egg.

Preventable Steps: Female Baldness

Hormone Balance:

The first thing to do to check female baldness is by closely monitoring the hormone levels as they trigger the problem often. This is better done by regular visits to your gynaecologists. “If periods are not normal, one should suspect an imbalance in hormone levels and consult a gynaecologist,” advised Dr John.

Hormone Replacement Therapy:

If hormone imbalance is diagnosed, one treatment option is hormone replacement therapy. “DHT blockers are often recommended but if one is not interested in medical management, they can go for hair transplant,” said Dr John Watts.

 Hair Fibre/Hair Patch:

If one is not keen on a hair transplant procedure, the other option that one can use for female baldness is either opting for hair fibre or a hair patch, said Dr John Watts while urging the viewers to share the video among their friends for awareness.
